Tour B

The right mix of culture and shopping!

The tour begins with the traditional Barong dance, which is learned from childhood and valued as an art form. The dance is based on legends and myths from religious epics. It tells of the struggle between good and evil. We then continue to the artists' town of Ubud. With 30,000 inhabitants, it is considered the cultural centre of Bali. Mainly painting, textile art and traditional woodcarving are produced in Ubud. First you visit the small Puri Saren palace complex, parts of which are still inhabited today. Opposite is the well-known Ubud market. Here you will find fruit and spices, but above all clothing, handicrafts, interior items, fabrics and jewellery.

Of course we also have time for a lunch break. The following visit to a family of artists shows you how woodcarvings or paintings are made in elaborate handwork. Another highlight in Ubud is the sacred monkey forest, home to more than 340 macaques. During the visit it is advisable to leave glasses, jewellery and hats in the car. The monkeys are now used to people visiting and are not shy about cheekily taking visitors' valuables. Deep in the enchanting jungle lies a temple, Pura Bukit Sari, founded in the 17th century.
